natalia v for stella mccartney

new from 'style.com/' is natalia vodianova's spring 2010 ad campaign for stella mccartney. i love the juxtaposition of the bright floral print against the black and white dalmation, really makes the dress pop. i really like natalia here, she is much better when she is soft and feminine, as compared to her hard image for givenchy.

+ nicolas kirkwood heels, designed to comemorate the release of 'alice in wonderland.' they are part of a special window display at printemps, 64 boulevard haussmann, paris. if you are lucky enough to be in paris, the a-i-w display is up until the 14th of march

my top 11* looks from the spring 2010 couture season...

*11 looks, i'm not very good at editing, in no particular order... iris strubegger in givenchy, love the juxtaposition between the very masculine tailoring and the super feminine feahered tee, plus i love the super sharp leather lapels
magdalena frackowiak in givenchy
maglosia bela in givenchy
natalia vodianova in givenchy, i would love, LOVE to see someone where this gown to the oscars, fingers crossed!
liu wen in dior
georgina stojilkovic in dior
hanne gaby odiele in valentino
frida gustavsson in armani prive
elsa sylvan in valentino, this is quite a simple gown, but what makes it stand out is the amazing shade of yellow, although not a colour you see often on the red carpet, on the right girl, i'm sure it could be a knock-out
karlie kloss in armani prive
valerija kelava in chanel, i love the casual ease of this gown

i can't wait to see if any of my picks see the light of the red carpet...

just a reminder...

...of the excellence of nicolas ghesquiere

yesterday...

i went up to the city yesterday, had a great day, went to all my usual haunts, melbourne central, dj's, collins street etc. from borders in melbourne central, i bought the latest copy of wwd magazine, which is a wrap-up of the spring 2010 menswear collections, i also purhcased, THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE, can't wait to watch the additional 90 minutes worth of footage!
then... later that very day, i bought the chilling horror flick, 'orphan.' it is amazing, the twist at the end will take your breath away + there is an unseen alternate ending, i wonder...

argh, abbey...

congratulations ms. lee, closing chanel haute couture, with mr. baptiste giabiconi as your groom, lucky girl...

come on and dance with me... yeah... slow...

this is quite possibly, the sexiest song, with the sexiest video, which features one of the sexiest dresses... ever. kylie in balenciaga makes chris very happy. the dress is killer, with its peek-a-boo under-pinnings, the meticulous pleating, the perfect mix of white, navy and sheer, the length, the fit, the attitude. all this visual only heightens the sex-appeal of the slick and minimal seductive anthem.

top- the dress, as seen on the runway on marcelle bittar, circa paris, october 5th 2002 for balenciaga's spring 2003 collection

mcqueen spring 2010

eep... raquel zimmermann for alexander mcqueen's spring 2010 ad campaign, as shot by nick knight. for someone who is being engulfed by deadly snakes, raquel looks incredibly chic. the campaign is totally enthralling, with all its amazing shapes and neon colours, will be amazing to see in print. and of course the ad is made extra special by the appearance of his vertigo-inducing 'armadillos.' can't wait to see more images...

roberto cavalli homme fall 2010

a little bit out of order, but here is roberto cavalli's fall 2010 collection shown in milan on the 17th. his collection this season was a great mix bold colour and print and great cuts, jackets, slightly shrunken, but boxy, leather pants, skinny and printed in bright checks. great footwear, leather hi-top brogues. the collection was styled in a kind-of 'just thrown on and walked out the door' vibe, which looks real, approachable and easy to replicate. should be a real success at retail level.

givenchy homme fall 2010

ricardo tisci showed his fall 2010 menswears collection for givenchy in paris on the 22nd. although not as multi-faceted as his spring collection, he still put on a stellar show. with the jewellery evocative of jesus' crown of thorns, the collection had a clerical air, in the strictness and rigour of the suiting. he continued showing men in leggings, this season, they came in slick spandex, and with feet. he also showed skirt/shorts in suiting and in velvet. the only embellishment came in a pair of trousers covered in 'eagle-shape' studs. he showed great outerwear, big wool coats, with over-sized collars and hood, to keep us warm and cosy in the height of winter. all the looks were paired with sandal, with seemed a tad odd, seeing that this is a winter collection, but who are we to agrue with mr, tisci. i have never seen myself wanting to wear fur, but the knubby fur jacket with the leather sleeves has a very contemporary, sleek look that i am really attracted to. another great collection.

dries van noten homme fall 2010

sorry for the delay in posts... but here we are, dries van noten fall 2010 menswear collection shown in paris on the 21st. i love his play on proportion and pattern, the way he clashes prints is brilliant, in such a way that it never looks cartoony or off-kilter. i like that he is reliable, he tweaks his cut from season to season, but never radically, he isn't about trend, he is making clothes that men will want to and will, wear. looking forward to seeing this collection at retail...
