i was a bit naughty...

as i mentioned in my previous post, today i went to chadstone. and i was a tad extravagant. for my birthday, 'sunglasses hut' sent me a $20 gift voucher, and being the sucker that i am, i used it today, i bought the limited edition 'tom ford james bond 007' aviators, they're kind of amazing... light as a feather, with leather bound arms, totally luxurious, MAGIC...

i also bought an ex-army jacket, from 'aussie disposals.' i tried on about half-a-dozen different ones over the course of the day, a couple from general pants co., one from glue and a couple from myer, all at varying price points. none of them, however, felt right, kind-of 'try-hard,' they lacked authenticity, so remembering 'a-d' was at cranbourne, i stopped off, and much to my delight, they had this little beauty... the tag is even in russian, how more authentic can you get...

i also had a mini-shopping spree at 'borders,' buying the new 'us vogue' with la bundchen on its cover + the lonely planets guide to new york [planning a trip for september with my friend ellen, whether or not we actually go is another thing, but still, it's fun to fantisize] + 2 penguin books, for future train rides to melbourne and lazy afternoons...

what i wore today...

today i went to chadstone + this morning, when getting dressed, i was inspired by the ysl s-s 10 video i posted yesterday. stefano's play on proportion, long torso, short legs, his play on tonal dressing, mixing textures. creating a long and languid casual silhouette. i think i achieved the ysl look quite well.

cardigan/ frisoni finetti
tee/ ??? from lady luck on chapel street [don't think it is there anymore]
pants/ awesome tweed granny pants that come up to my nipples, bought from st. vinnies
shoes/ prada studded brogues [HEART]

art...

ready for my close-up, 'hey i-d magazine, make me your next cover star!' getting creative with my ysl wallet. n.b. patent leather + flash + bad lighting = no good :(
isn't she lovely...
yesterday i went to melbourne, to spend my birthday money [and a little of my own...] i came home with the new issue of 'vman,' featuring jo-bro nick on the cover. there some brilliant edits in here, 'how to wear denim [anywhere]' shot by mario testino, as the title hints, is an ode to ol' blue. the edit features jon k, andres v + jake d, i will put up some pics from said edit in a sec...

+ bought a bottle of tom ford's grey vetiver, it's amazing and so potent, one spray has lasted the whole day... heavenly

just because she's amazing...

fifteen hundred...

kind of exciting, since i started my blog, i have had 1500 visitors, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that many, but it is exciting all the same... keep on visiting world...

and in other news... despite her tongue attack on france, that stalled her international career, just a matter of weeks ago, cassi van den dungen is making her presence felt at l'oreal melbourne fashion festival this week. according to the herald sun, she has booked 5 shows this week and has been on her best behaviour. congratulations cassi, you look stunning, and hopefully later down the track, you can try paris again, because seeing this picture, you completely look the part.

reminiscing...

trolling youtube, and found this... gwen stefani's video clip for 'what you waitin' for?' oh the memories, we used to play this song on repeat during textiles back in year 11. even though music and fashion has always gone kind-of hand-in-hand, this is my first real acknowledgement of that collabaration. this music video kind of spurred my now, near obsession with all things high-fashion. thank-you gwen, thank-you john.

...and the rest

here are the rest of my presents...
from my sister, 'saw VI' and 'the black dress' by valerie steele, fashion historian, curator and director of the museum at the fashion institute of technology in new york. can't wait to emmerse myself in this little baby
and from my parents, 'kevin mc cloud's grand tour of europe,' love his work, addicted to 'grand designs' so this should be a treat. and 'harper's bazaar fabulous at every age' a guide to looking chic, for women in their 20's to her 70's, a great resource, which blends on-trend fashions with practical everyday dressing for smart women.
all in all i think i did quite well...

let me eat cake, mr armani...

just opened up my prezzies, and got THIS, the emporio armani watch i blogged about back in december. my parents were kind enough to purchase it for me. oh the joys of having a watch again, i had forgotten how reassuring it is to instantly be able to know the time. and plus to tell it on such a pretty watch, thank you mr. armani...
oh, and my cake, chocolate, with a jam and cream filliing, heavenly sickening...

holy frick...4

the amount of excitment bubbling inside of me seeing this amazing givenchy fall 2010 couture gown make it to the oscars, is out of control. and on zoe saldana, i don't think she has put a foot wrong, while promoting 'avatar' and during the award season, she always looks impeccable. what is more exciting, is that 2 months ago, when i posted about couture, i had mentioned this dress and my desire to see it on the oscars red-carpet... so thank you zoe, for making me a very happy chris...

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH... SO EXCITED

omigod, cassi, shut up!

Model Cassi Van Den Dungen dishes it out to French people on her recent trip to Paris | Herald Sun

seeing this article in the herald sun made my blood boil, every paris show that 'style.com/' has coverage of, i have checked, to see whether or not cassi has been cast, to see if she has made it, and on this, day 4 of paris fashion week, i felt sorry for her, imagining the hard time she must be having, then, to see this article in today's hrerald sun is like a giant slap in the face. i'm sorry, but i feel a rant coming on. this is a girl, who has the potential to be great, and she has been given every chance. she has been signed to probably the most prestigous modelling agency in the world, img, who have the resources to mold her into a 'top' model, look at where their latest success story, lara stone is. she virtually had no career before she signed with img. just when i thought cassi was finally going to get her big break, she was only set to make her international debut in the fashion capital of the world, paris. but instead, it would seem, that things got tough amd she mouthed off, on facebook, of all places, and in another career stall, she is now back on a plane, returning home, defeated, and probably without international representation. sorry if i sound harsh, but i was really willing her to succeed, in paris, she would've been working with the best of the best, everyone that matters, works in paris, it is just so frustrating to see someone who has 'it' throw in the towel and in such an unsavoury way

lanvin fall 2010 collection

for fall 2010, alber elbaz, was focused on cut and stucture for the lanvin woman. he opened the show with minimal embellsihment where shape was put into sharp focus, silhouettes were close to the body with a focus on either a rounded or sharpened shoulder. alot of these opening looks, had such an ease to them, as if alber just took a singular piece of fabric and draped it directly to the body, so effortless. and with that ease, came a confidence, a sexiness that i don't feel you see on many other runways. alber just has a way about him, he just gets it, a kind of non-fussy way of making a woman extraodrinary. for example, look 10, worn by yulia, a simple black sheath, but the way he has created the inverted darts, and that fold of fabric at the neck, and the fit... the fit, it speaks for it self. also, look 28, worn by edita, a simple camel coat, but that extraordinary cut, that sleeve, that attitude, that allure of what she may, or may be not wearing underneath, all heighten her confidence, and our desire. it is when alber starts to embellish, that we see a different side of his woman, a wilder, more provocative side, where she will wear an lbd, covered neck to thigh in plume, she is dramatic, but still not in an obvious way. the lanvin woman is quite a complex creature, and luckily for her, alber elbaz understands her, and he caters, very successfully, to her every whim.

balenciaga fall 2010 collection

nicolas ghesquiere showed his fall 2010 collection for balenciaga in paris on thursday. in many ways it was an extension of his spring collection, you got the amazing colour-blocking in the form of, round neck dresses with wings in the back, the amazing kind-of patchwork jackets, this season with a fur back and you get and amazing mish-mash shoe, last seasons woven ankle boot has been replaced with fantastic block-heeled brogue.
what was new however, was the brilliant sweater/skirt combo as seen on miranda kerr, with the amazing geometric stitch-work in neon. the great nylon quilted jackets with the wings in the back, with the black samurai-style collar, but what was newest of all and something that is hard to follow without actually seeing it the flesh, was the seemingly all-in-one kind-of pant/top hybrid with cut-away at the front with the big chunky zip, again with the samurai-style collar. the same concept was given to a skirt/jacket hybrid. also what was exciting was the closing passage of 3 'bubble' dresses, where tops are kind-of tucked into honeycomb patterned 'bubbles.'
the clothes were very textural be it real or unreal, be it, the fur, the quilting, the perforated lace, the matte vs. shine, the wood grain leather in the shoes, it was a visual feast of different elements that are all very familiar, but the way nicolas put it all togehter was new and exciting...

a single man

yesterday, i went up to the city, where i went to cinema nova on lygon street to see tom ford's debut film, 'a single man.' it was brilliant, each frame is such a visual feast, so rich in layers, the costuming, sets, locations all add to the amazing impact of what is in essence, a tragic story. the way in which tom used the camera to evoke emotion and time was brilliantly effective, when things seemed grim the colours were muted and when things perk up the colours immediately brightened, vivid. to emphasise flash-backs, they were either shot in black + white or in a muted grainy effect. i loved the way in many situations the mouth and eyes were focused on, in sometimes a very erotic manner, both these features, with very little movement can convey, a world of emotion.
both colin firth and julianne moore were made for their respective roles, colin was cool, calm, sexy, funny, and intense, the scene in which he gets the tragic news of his partners death is chilling, with little to no movement, you can see the emotion just bubbling away inside him. he was also very effortless, nonchalant in places, when teaching, and his first encounter with jim. julianne was a riot, her voice reminded me of elizabeth hurley and character and mannerisms reminded me of 'ab-fab's' edwina moon. yet she was such a sad soul, longing for something that she knew in heart, she could never have. masking this pain with drink and clinging to the past.
nicolas hoult's character kenny was george's dark angel, his naivety and zest for the present, unconciously helped george realise that lifes simple things make living worth while, their brief time together was both uncomfortable and tender, nuturing, of each other. a great mirror to george's darkness
all in all, 'a single man' is a testament, first of all to christopher isherwood, the author of the novel, for writing a wonderful platform, from which tom ford could spring-board his characters in a world that is as plush and opulent and dark as tom's past collections for gucci and ysl. he stretched himself creatively and emotionally to bring this story to the big screen and to the masses. and finally to its actors, for bringing the these expectional character to life. can't wait for its dvd release, it will be a welcome addition to my vast collection.

p.s. for fashion lovers, how exciting to see jon kortajarena, take the role of carlos, who's brief and erotic encounter with george was a pivotal stepping stone to help george move on, out of his fog. plus aline weber, former balenciaga opener, the erotic, cigarette smoking lois, who was romantically linked to kenny, but distant, cold, very sensual.
