GOT IT!
odd one out...
prada fall 2010 collection
stunning, so subversive and rich, librarian chic with a kinky twist. i love the full-skirt shape, the ruffled busts, the hair, the flash of flesh under the bust in the last few dresses, the cable tights, the unusual mix of knit + pvc. the glasses make me die... amazing. this show was made for lara

pushing the envelope...
christopher bailey is really moving fashion forward with his fall 2010 collection for burberry. and when i say moving fashion forward, i don't mean the clothes, but the way we see and purhcase them. the show, which was amazing, was streamed live on the burberry website, beamed, in 3-D, to new york, l.a., tokyo and dubai, for invited guests who couldn't make it to london for the show. but the most exciting advancement, as the clothes came down the runway, you were able to pre-order the brilliant outer-wear and accessories, to be delivered within 6-8 weeks. now this... is amazing, this cuts turn around by over half, in fashion terms, this is almost instant, no 6 month wait for the collection to hit the store floor, as when you pre-order the clothes are delivered to your door. mr. bailey has definitely thrown down the gauntlet, your move rest of the fashion industry...

r-o-d-a-r-t-e
kate + laura mulleavy showed their fall 2010 collection for rodarte in new york on the 16th of february. the show, which was quite a departure for rodarte, was light and airy and quite pretty, which, for the last couple of seasons, is a word you wouldn't have necessarily used to describe rodarte. although, like last season, their inspiration was quite dark, the resulting clothes, like always, were beautiful. patchwork draped floral dresses, were naive and pretty, but in a way that was grown-up and mature. 'big hug of a' wrap cardigans were luxe and cosy, rendered in patchwork check and suede. wool-fringed skirts added interest to little knit sleeveless sweaters with a scallop edge. each look was paired with nicolas kirkwood 'candle-stick' shoes, worn with sock or sheer embroidered leggings. the final passage of white dresses were like a dream, heavenly draped, some with feather adorned sleeves, others were dripping with strings of pearls and girlish lace. another whimiscal and complex and undeniably beautiful show from rodarte

melbourne, baby!
yesterday, valentine's day, i went to melbourne, to do what i usually do, leer at clothing and accessories that i know in reality i will never own, but still, i leer anyway. and buy magazines... back to the leering, if only i had a spare $3650 in the back pocket of my claude maus jeans, i could by a timewalker watch from mont blanc. i went into their collins street boutique and tried one on, amazing... back to the magazines, i bought the february issue of american vogue with jessica biel as its cover girl. 10 men, with david beckham in the cover and vman 16, with vman model winner rico on the cover. it is full of great edits, one called 'work it out' by terry richardson, which features garrett neff and a handful of other buff models sweating it out in the gym in various states of undress. and featured in this post is another edit, entitled 'legendary,' featuring male SUPERmodels, tyson, brad, tony, joel and co. and lookie... mr brad koenig in MY prada studded brogues.

the amazing mr. wang
he just has IT, he seems to have had the cool just built into him from birth. the way he sees things, classic things and completely flips them on there head. the opening looks, done in grey pinstripe suiting were abbreviations of what we know as high-powered corporate wear, but in wang's hands, become sexy body-con coats, with crossover lapels and cover-buttons, and an cropped bolero over a slinky dip-dyed singlet. even a mini-dress with tails in the back and a beautiful fragile lace top edge. a simply grey sweater is updated when draped and cut to the sternum. like christopher kane a few seasons back, wang managed to make velvet sexy, by way of a blood-red a -line mini dress with lace sleeves, a pair of merlot over-the-boot leggings and little crop tops that peek-a-boo out from under a clever dinner jacket/capelet hybrid. his closing passage of little grecian draped dresses, are the perfect answer to red-carpet dressing for the new young and the restless group of it-girl actresses and socialites. by way of accessories, he showed amazing fabric wrapped sunglasses, a sweet vertical-style doctor-bag, in high-shine bag leather, black canvas nap-sacks + super-stacked moccasin-style booties in leather and velvet. with the cult following that wang harbours, one would imagine outside pressure would get to him, but its seems that his confidence and ability just seem to grow with every new collection, the standard and quality of work is always there and that is what keeps the cool girls wanting more...
preen baby, preen
justin thornton and thea begassi showed their preen fall 2010 collection in new york this past friday. and in usual preen fashion, it was a brilliant mix of body-concious slinky dresses and sharp tailoring. what was new was the opening passage of floaty bustier dresses, with cashmere turtle-neck sweaters, cropped over the bust, on top, a cool way to keep warm without sacrificing sex appeal. its hard to explain, i can't quite pin-point what it is that makes preen, cool. but there is something about the styling, and the peek-a-boo nature of alot of the looks, whether it be a full on attack of flesh as in the last black dress, or just a hint of skin, as in a black corset dress, with a slash of skin cut under the cups, or even the second look, which is half mesh. it is always sexy but never in an overt way. take the third look, over half of anja's body is covered, but the strength of the shoulder and the cinched waist and even just the look on her face and that hint of yellow all make for a sexy strong image that never crosses into vulgarity. it is exciting to see preen's progression, their look his very distinct, unwavering in its consistency, but yet, i feel, they continuously bring something new, and thats exciting, its why we keep watching season after season...
vb... not the beer
how appropriate, victoria beckham's super feminine fall 2010 collection was shown yesterday, on valentine' day, in new york. it was a real step forward in the way of shape, she showed her typical figure-hugging hourglass silhouette, but what was new, was a couple of cocoon shape sweater dresses, which had a real chic, relaxed vibe about them. she also showed a couple of wrap dresses, one stunning floor length version in shimmer gold, was a delightfully casual way to do red-carpet dressing. what was also new were a couple of draped gowns with built in corsets, they fell straight with a couple of tucks at the bust to create shape. with victoria's current success on the red-carpet, i highly doubt this collection will hinder that success, only cement her new reputation as a serious fashon force...
my, oh my, how miss beckham has changed from this... classic
congratulations abbey...

kate for ysl s-s '08
just trawling youtube, and came across this...
ysl manifesto spring-summer 2008, featuring kate moss and shot by inez and vinoodh. i loved this collection, it was all about the cut of the clothes, the way they moved with and against the body. they were thoroughly modern, crisp and chic clothes for serious women who were at the fore-front of fashion, so it was fittiing for ysl to use kate moss for this collection, she IS the most iconic of them all...
ozzie vogue...
today the march issue of vogue turned up in my mail-box, super-excited! abbey-lee is the cover star, her 3rd for the australian fashion bible. and it features an amazing editorial with abbey wearing the hottest looks from the spring 2010 collections. can't wait to set aside a good couple of hours to read it from cover-to-cover... and here for your viewing delight is a behind-the-scenes video of abbey in action on sydney's famous bondi beach
